A new report from NW2045 contains a stark warning about the future of some of Scotland’s most remote mainland communities.
Funding from the Scottish Government’s Addressing Depopulation Fund via Highland Council and the Community Regeneration Fund has enabled us to produce the most detailed understanding possible of the state of play in communities in the North West, five years on from the publication of the NW2045 Community Vision.
The findings are clear: Coigach and North West Sutherland are facing an unprecedented demographic crisis, with population levels now at their lowest ever recorded, and the number of children and young people halving over just two decades.
